Atlanta, GA – The National Weather Service in Peachtree City warns that temperatures will drop below freezing late Friday night through mid-morning Saturday across much of north and central Georgia, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far.
According to NWS forecasts, actual temperatures will fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s, with wind chills (“feels like” temperatures) dipping into the teens and 20s across the region. The coldest air will settle over the northern and western counties, including Atlanta, Carrollton, Gainesville, and Rome.
Forecasters caution that prolonged sub-freezing conditions could harm sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and exposed plumbing. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and drip faucets to prevent frozen pipes.
The cold snap is expected to linger through early Saturday before a gradual warm-up later in the weekend. Despite sunshine Saturday afternoon, wind chills will remain brisk through midday.
This early-season freeze comes on the heels of mild Thanksgiving week temperatures and marks the start of a colder, more winter-like pattern for Georgia heading into December.
