Atlanta, Georgia – Summer storms return to Georgia on Tuesday, bringing damaging winds, torrential downpours, and lightning across metro Atlanta and along I-20 by early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, thunderstorms will likely begin around 2 p.m. Tuesday and stretch into the evening. These storms may produce gusts up to 30 mph, intense lightning, and pockets of localized flooding. Areas south of I-20 are at highest risk for severe impacts, though much of north and central Georgia could see hazardous conditions.

Cities including Atlanta, Macon, and Athens should prepare for street flooding, downed limbs, and potential power outages. Lightning may be frequent and intense. Residents are urged to delay outdoor activities, secure loose objects, and avoid flooded roadways during peak storm hours.

Showers continue into Tuesday night with a 70% chance of additional rain and isolated thunderstorms. Storm coverage decreases slightly Wednesday, but showers and thunder will linger through Friday. Each day brings a chance of heavy rain and scattered hail, especially during the late afternoon hours.
