Atlanta, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) is reminding residents across Georgia to prepare for severe weather as part of Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day, which includes a statewide tornado drill scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the NWS Columbia office, a test message will be broadcast on all NOAA Weather Radio transmitters located in Georgia, replacing the normal weekly alert. The routine South Carolina transmitter test will still air at 11 a.m.
Officials are urging schools, businesses, and families to participate in the drill by practicing sheltering procedures and reviewing emergency plans. The annual exercise is a partnership between the National Weather Service and the Georgia Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, designed to help residents stay ready for tornado season.
The NWS advises Georgians to always identify a safe location—preferably a small, interior room on the lowest floor—and to rely on trusted weather sources for updates during severe weather events.
