Atlanta, GA – A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is forecast to move into northwest Georgia early Monday morning, bringing with it a risk of damaging wind gusts, hail, and possible tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) has been issued for much of north and central Georgia. Storms are expected to arrive around 4 a.m. Monday and spread southward through the day, with the threat lasting into Monday evening.
Forecasters say damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard, though isolated hail and brief tornadoes are also possible. The risk area includes major cities such as Atlanta, Macon, and Athens, with localized impacts likely along the I-75 and I-20 corridors.
Residents are urged to monitor local alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Strong storms could down trees, damage roofs, and interrupt power service.
Monday’s storm setup represents a step up from earlier forecasts. The region was previously under a Slight Risk (Level 2) before Sunday’s upgrade. March and April are historically active months for severe weather in Georgia.
Drivers and school officials should prepare for possible delays Monday morning. Stay indoors during warnings, and avoid travel during peak storm periods when possible.
