Atlanta, Ga. – Strong overnight thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Georgia, with more than 90 counties—including parts of metro Atlanta, Macon, and Valdosta—under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch covers a large swath of the state, from the coast to the Alabama border. Cities at risk include Savannah, Columbus, Albany, and Warner Robins. Storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, frequent lightning, and isolated flooding.

Drivers in Bibb, Lowndes, and Dougherty counties should avoid travel overnight as downed trees and power lines are possible. Urban areas like Atlanta and Augusta could see localized street flooding and brief outages. Rural communities are especially vulnerable to wind damage due to saturated soil from recent rains.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, stay indoors, and charge phones and devices ahead of possible outages. Those in mobile homes or flood-prone zones should be prepared to move to safer shelter if needed.

Severe thunderstorm warnings may follow for individual counties. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts as conditions evolve.
