Atlanta, Georgia – Sweltering heat and scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to slam Atlanta on Friday, bringing heat index values near 97° and damaging winds up to 60 mph.

Scattered storms will redevelop Friday afternoon, with the strongest producing damaging wind gusts, brief heavy downpours, and hail up to a quarter inch.

Friday’s high will reach 92°F, with humidity making it feel closer to 100–104°F. Those with respiratory conditions, older adults, and children should limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated. Power outages are possible where storms strike, so charge devices and prepare for temporary cooling disruptions.
