Atlanta, Georgia – Sweltering heat and the threat of severe storms are creating hazardous conditions across central and north Georgia this Tuesday, with the most dangerous window for strong thunderstorms expected from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall could impact communities from Atlanta and Macon to Dublin and Warner Robins this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for much of central Georgia through 8 p.m., with heat index values climbing as high as 109°. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to intensify after 2 p.m., posing a risk for wind gusts up to 60 mph, downed trees, power outages, and sudden street flooding—especially in low-lying neighborhoods and along busy corridors like I-75 and I-16.

Residents in Atlanta, Macon, Columbus, Dublin, and Warner Robins should be prepared for rapidly changing weather this afternoon. Outdoor activities should be limited; anyone without air conditioning should seek cooler indoor shelter. Drivers are urged to watch for rapidly pooling water, possible downed limbs, and traffic slowdowns during the evening rush.

Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous work outdoors, and charge electronic devices now in case of power loss. Today’s storm risk is typical of Georgia’s late July pattern but stands out for its combination of heat and severe weather threats. Updates and new advisories may follow if storms intensify.
