ATLANTA, GA – Umbrellas will be the must-have accessory for metro Atlanta residents heading into the weekend as a steady stretch of rain settles across north Georgia. After a calm, partly cloudy start Thursday morning, conditions will turn damp and gray by Friday, with multiple rounds of showers continuing through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered showers will develop Friday morning and persist into the evening. Rain chances climb to 90% Friday, tapering slightly to 40–50% Saturday and Sunday. While rainfall totals remain modest — around a half inch to one inch expected by Sunday night — the slow-moving pattern will keep roads slick and skies gloomy for several days.
Travelers on I-75, I-85, and I-20 should plan for reduced visibility and wet pavement, especially during heavier bursts of rain Friday afternoon and Saturday evening. The region could also see brief ponding on low-lying roads during steady rainfall.
Highs will hover near 50°F each afternoon with lows dipping into the low 40s, keeping the air cool and damp but well above freezing. The rain finally eases late Sunday, leading into a clear, cooler Monday as dry air returns.
Looking ahead, forecasters note that the second week of December may trend colder nationwide, with Arctic air spilling south into the central U.S. by Dec. 11–17. For now, Atlanta stays mild — but the winter chill creeping south could bring a noticeable change before mid-month.
