Georgia – North Georgia is preparing for midweek rain as a storm system is set to impact the region beginning Wednesday evening, bringing showers primarily north of Interstate 20. Rainfall amounts could reach up to 1 inch in some areas, with the highest totals expected in north Georgia cities like Rome, where residents face a 96% chance of at least 0.25 inches of rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Atlanta has an 85% chance of seeing 0.25 inches of rain, while Athens has a 79% likelihood. Rainfall will begin late Wednesday night and continue into Thursday, with a 50% chance of rain persisting through early Thursday afternoon. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, as wet roads could lead to reduced visibility and slippery conditions, especially along I-20 and major routes north of Atlanta.
The five-day forecast shows drier conditions returning by Friday, with sunny skies and temperatures reaching highs in the low 60s. Cooler nights are expected, with temperatures dropping into the low 40s over the weekend. By Saturday, conditions are predicted to remain clear, offering a respite from the rain as highs reach the mid-60s, ideal for weekend activities.
Residents should stay updated with local weather channels and prepare for potential rain delays. Those in areas with high rainfall probabilities, particularly in northern cities like Rome, should plan accordingly. Local authorities urge drivers to check road conditions before heading out and take necessary precautions against possible rain-slicked roads.
