Georgia is waking up to whipping flags and rattling windows across Atlanta as strong northwest winds sweep through the metro. The sky is clear and bright, but the air feels sharp and brisk. Sustained winds are already picking up, and gusts will strengthen through the day.
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. for north and central Georgia, including Atlanta. Winds from the northwest will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. High-profile vehicles on I-75, I-85 and I-20 may feel sudden crosswinds, especially on elevated ramps and bridges.
Temperatures climb to about 47 degrees this afternoon under sunny skies. Despite the sunshine, it will feel cooler because of the wind. Secure loose outdoor items now. Tree limbs could come down, and isolated power outages are possible.
Winds ease tonight as skies remain mostly clear. Lows drop to around 25 degrees. That colder air settles in Monday morning, with wind chills dipping into the single digits and teens across parts of north Georgia.
