Georgia – Headlights glow like halos on damp pavement this morning as dense fog settles across north and central Georgia. Visibility drops fast, and drivers feel the slowdown immediately.
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning for much of the Atlanta metro, including Peachtree City. Visibility has fallen to one quarter mile or less in spots, especially along and south of Interstate 85. School traffic and post-holiday commutes collide with poor visibility, raising crash risks early.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, fog formed after midnight and will linger through roughly mid-morning. Low clouds trap moisture near the surface, keeping conditions hazardous for drivers, walkers, and bus routes. Calm winds offer little help clearing the haze quickly.
Conditions improve gradually late this morning. Fog thins by late morning, allowing partial sunshine to return. Highs reach the low 60s today, a noticeable jump from recent chilly starts. Roads dry out, but shaded areas may stay damp longer.
Tonight turns mostly cloudy, with lows in the upper 40s. Tuesday brings another mild January day, with highs pushing the mid-60s. A few light showers become possible by afternoon, though widespread rain holds off for now.
Wednesday feels almost springlike. Sunshine returns, and temperatures climb near 70 degrees across much of central Georgia. That warmth holds into Thursday before clouds thicken again. Shower chances increase late Thursday night into Friday, creating slick roads for end-of-week travel.
Drivers should slow down this morning, increase following distance, and avoid sudden lane changes. Use low-beam headlights in fog.
