Atlanta, Georgia – Isolated thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Georgia Saturday afternoon and evening, with gusty winds and heavy rainfall possible in the Atlanta metro and mountain regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the greatest risk for severe storms stretches from 3 p.m. through 11 p.m., mainly impacting north and central Georgia, including Atlanta, Rome, Gainesville, and LaGrange. Affected areas may see wind gusts up to 50 mph and localized downpours, especially in higher elevations.
While the tornado and hail threat remains low, a few storms could cause minor tree damage or brief power outages. Heavy rain may lead to ponding on roads—particularly along I-75 near Dalton and I-85 around Atlanta—creating hazardous driving conditions for evening commuters and those heading to weekend events.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, keep cell phones charged, and monitor local alerts for any sudden changes. If thunder roars, seek shelter indoors and avoid travel in heavy rain.
This round of storms is expected to taper off by late tonight, but additional weather updates may follow if conditions intensify. Stay tuned to NWS Atlanta for the latest advisories.
