Atlanta, GA – A freeze warning remains in effect for portions of north central, northwest, and west central Georgia until 10 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 21 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, areas affected include Atlanta, Rome, Dalton, Carrollton, Newnan, and surrounding counties. Residents should take precautions as frost and freeze conditions may kill crops and sensitive vegetation, while also posing risks to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The cold snap follows a period of fluctuating temperatures across the region, with unseasonably low conditions expected to persist through the early morning hours. Homeowners are advised to cover or bring in delicate plants, insulate exposed pipes, and ensure pets have warm shelter.
Local officials urge residents to check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those without adequate heating. Freezing conditions may impact morning commutes, particularly in rural areas where residual moisture could lead to slick spots on roadways.
This is the first freeze warning issued for Georgia in March, signaling a late-season cold front sweeping through the Southeast. Warmer temperatures are expected to return by the weekend.
