Peachtree City, Georgia – A slow-moving storm system could drench parts of Georgia with up to 5 inches of rain through Friday, raising the risk of flash flooding in cities like Macon, Dublin, and Savannah.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a stationary front lingering near I-20 will serve as a trigger for repeated rounds of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Rainfall will be especially intense across central and southeastern Georgia, where storm motion is limited and moisture is high. The Weather Prediction Center gives these areas a 15% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles of any given point.
Localized totals between 3 and 5 inches are possible, particularly near low-lying roads, creeks, and streams. Areas such as Albany, Tifton, and Waycross could see rapid water rises during peak storm hours. Drivers should avoid flooded roadways, and those with outdoor plans are urged to stay weather-aware. Be prepared to move to higher ground quickly if rising water is observed.
Scattered storms will continue into the weekend before a cold front brings relief and drier air by early next week. Additional alerts may be issued if rainfall trends intensify.
