Atlanta, Georgia – Scorching heat and high humidity will blanket North and Central Georgia this week, with “feels like” temperatures soaring past 100°F from Tuesday through Saturday. Afternoon hours could be especially hazardous for anyone outdoors, as cities like Athens and Macon are projected to see heat indices as high as 104°F, according to the National Weather Service in Atlanta.

The agency urges residents to take the heat seriously. Hydrate regularly, take breaks in the shade, and avoid strenuous activities during peak hours—especially if you work outside. Children, seniors, and pets should be closely monitored, as even brief exposure can lead to heat-related illness.

Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Macon, and Rome will all experience oppressive humidity. Athens and Macon face the worst conditions, with “feels like” readings above 100°F each afternoon through Friday, peaking at 104°F. Columbus is also at risk, reaching up to 102°F midweek. Even Atlanta and Rome, though slightly cooler, won’t escape the extreme heat, with “feels like” temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s.

The heat advisory is expected to last through Saturday, with more alerts possible if high humidity lingers. Continue to check for updates and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
