Atlanta, Georgia – A round of potentially severe thunderstorms could rattle much of Georgia beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail through early Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) covers a broad area of central and northern Georgia, including Atlanta, Macon, and Columbus. Storms are expected to become more intense after sunset, with gusts exceeding 60 mph and quarter-sized hail possible through 5 a.m. Sunday.

Cities including LaGrange, Athens, Warner Robins, and Dublin are also under the Level 1 risk zone. While the tornado threat remains low, a brief spin-up can’t be ruled out. Motorists traveling Saturday night should stay alert for sudden wind shifts and falling tree limbs, especially along I-75, I-20, and I-85 corridors.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during active storms, and ensure phones are charged in case of power outages. The stronger part of the storm cluster could brush into eastern Alabama before moving east across Georgia overnight.

Additional updates or warnings may be issued later Saturday as storm timing and intensity become more defined.
