Atlanta, Georgia – Skies across north and central Georgia may appear hazy Saturday as wildfire smoke from Canada continues to drift southward into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, satellite imagery shows a plume of smoke moving across the Midwest and into the Southeast. The hazy skies could be visible as far south as LaGrange, Macon, and Augusta throughout the day. While the smoke is expected to stay high in the atmosphere, minimizing health risks, residents may notice a milky or smoky appearance above.

Air quality impacts are not anticipated, but those with respiratory sensitivities can check the latest conditions at AirNow.gov. Visibility may be slightly reduced, especially during morning and evening hours when haze tends to settle closer to the ground.

Drivers and outdoor workers aren’t expected to face significant disruptions, but local photographers and skywatchers may notice altered lighting and muted sunsets — a visual side effect of smoke filtering the sun.

The hazy conditions should gradually clear late Saturday as upper-level winds shift. No air quality alerts have been issued, but updates are available online as this northern smoke event unfolds.
