Atlanta, GA – The first full day of December starts gray, damp, and chilly across metro Atlanta as a broad band of rain pushes across north Georgia, soaking roadways and slowing travel from Peachtree City to Marietta. Showers will intensify through the evening, with the heaviest rain between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible, with brief heavier pockets that may cause standing water in low-lying areas and near storm drains. Winds from the east may gust up to 15 mph, adding a raw edge to the damp December air. Drivers should plan for slick interstates, particularly along I-75, I-85, and I-20, where visibility could drop quickly in heavier showers.
By Tuesday morning, the rain will pull east as cooler, drier air filters into the region. Temperatures will fall to the upper 20s by dawn Tuesday, introducing a risk of patchy frost on bridges and elevated surfaces. The rest of Tuesday turns mostly sunny but brisk, with highs near 50°F.
Wednesday brings a break, featuring clear skies and a high near 51°F, before clouds return late Thursday. Another round of showers may develop Friday, signaling an unsettled start to the first full weekend of December.
