A tornado watch has been issued for several counties in North and Central Georgia, including Atlanta, until 4 a.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center warns of possible tornadoes, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall overnight.
According to the NWS, the tornado watch includes Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, and 30 other counties, covering the Atlanta metro area and beyond. Residents should remain alert as severe thunderstorms could develop with little warning.
The strongest storms are expected late Saturday into the early morning hours of Sunday. Forecasters advise residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and have a weather alert system ready. If a tornado warning is issued, take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Drivers should also exercise caution, as heavy rain may lead to localized flooding. The tornado watch remains in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday unless extended or upgraded to a warning.
