Georgia – A tornado watch has been issued for 35 counties across Georgia as severe weather threatens the region today. The watch, which began at 2:20 PM EDT, will remain in effect until 6:00 PM EDT. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center issued the alert for areas including Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, and several others.

According to the NWS, residents in the affected counties should prepare for the potential of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes. The watch covers key counties in southern and eastern Georgia, impacting cities such as Savannah, Valdosta, and Statesboro.

The tornado watch signals that conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather, including tornadoes. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued.

Communities are advised to stay alert to changing conditions as the storm system progresses throughout the day. As of now, there are no warnings issued, but conditions may change rapidly.

The NWS recommends staying indoors, away from windows, and in a safe place on the lowest level of your home if a tornado warning is issued.
