Carroll County, GA – A weak tornado swept through parts of Carroll County on Monday afternoon, with wind speeds topping out at 75 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
According to the National Weather Service Atlanta office, the EF0 tornado touched down between 12:10 p.m. and 12:16 p.m. on March 31 and remained on the ground for approximately six minutes. The storm path extended 5.31 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards, though no injuries or deaths have been reported.
The updated survey, released Tuesday, shows the tornado began its path south of Oak Grove, continuing northeast and tracking near the Oak Mountain and Cedarside areas before lifting. Officials say the brief touchdown was part of a larger line of storms that moved through west-central Georgia earlier in the day.
EF0 tornadoes are considered the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which measures wind speeds and damage potential. Despite its classification, such storms are capable of causing damage to roofs, trees, and unsecured structures.
The NWS continues to assess regional storm activity from Monday and encourages residents to remain alert during the ongoing severe weather season. Emergency preparedness officials also remind residents to monitor local alerts and have a plan in place when warnings are issued.
The weather system that triggered the tornado is no longer active in the region, but residents are urged to stay tuned to official forecasts for any changes.
