Peachtree City, Ga. – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep through north and central Georgia this afternoon, bringing the risk of hail, strong wind gusts, and brief flooding—just in time to disrupt the evening commute on major highways including I-75 and I-285.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop after 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, as a weak cold front drifts southward. Some of the stronger storms could produce damaging wind gusts, small hail, and heavy rainfall across the Atlanta metro and surrounding counties including Fulton, Clayton, and Coweta.

Storm activity will remain possible into Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and early evening. The NWS notes a 30% chance of storms on Wednesday, July 2, with locally higher rainfall amounts. Residents should secure outdoor items, delay unnecessary travel, and monitor for flash flood advisories through midweek.

Looking ahead to the July 4th weekend, drier and sunnier conditions return starting Thursday. Independence Day (Friday, July 4) is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 92°F—ideal for outdoor celebrations across the region.

However, make sure to stay hydrated and watch for heat-related illnesses, especially during peak afternoon hours.
