Atlanta, Georgia – Scattered thunderstorms could roll across central Georgia by Wednesday afternoon, bringing gusty winds and brief heavy rain to busy roadways like I-75. Outdoor plans across Atlanta, Macon, and Athens may be interrupted after 2 p.m., as pop-up storms build in the rising summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across central Georgia between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday. While severe weather is not anticipated, these storms may produce brief wind gusts over 30 mph, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. Motorists should slow down on wet roads and avoid driving through standing water.

Cities including Griffin, Warner Robins, and Covington could see brief, drenching showers that may delay evening commutes or summer events. Fog is not expected to return Wednesday morning, allowing for improved visibility during early travel hours. While the storms will remain spotty through midweek, chances increase significantly heading into the weekend.

By Friday and Saturday, more widespread showers and storms are expected statewide, especially in the afternoons and evenings. The risk of lightning and downpours will be higher, and residents are advised to monitor weather alerts closely.

Warnings are not in effect for Wednesday, but updates may follow by late Thursday if storm coverage expands.
