Atlanta, Georgia – Strong spring thunderstorms are expected to sweep through north and central Georgia Saturday afternoon, with damaging wind gusts and hail possible in the Atlanta metro area.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the greatest storm coverage will hit between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, with areas along I-75, I-85, and I-20 especially at risk for travel delays. Gusts up to 40 mph and hail up to the size of quarters may occur. Isolated showers may continue into Saturday night, particularly east of Atlanta.
Communities from Marietta and Athens to Macon and LaGrange should prepare for rapid weather changes. Outdoor events Saturday afternoon may face delays or cancellations due to lightning and brief heavy rain. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary driving during storm hours.
While spotter activation is not currently needed, the NWS warns of continued thunderstorm chances through midweek. Sunday offers brief relief, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s, before another round of showers arrives Tuesday.
