Atlanta, GA — Unseasonably dry conditions and gusty winds are raising fire concerns across north and central Georgia today, as spring settles in with high risks. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday, sharply increasing the chance of wildfires. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, especially near wooded areas and along the I-75 and I-285 corridors.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, critical fire weather continues in the Atlanta metro and surrounding counties due to low humidity and northwest winds up to 25 mph. Residents are urged to delay any outdoor fire activity and remain alert for local fire bans. Emergency services may be strained if fires spark in dry brush or open fields.

Conditions will ease slightly Thursday as winds calm, but fire risks remain elevated through Friday. Temperatures will rise steadily, with Atlanta expecting highs near 75°F Thursday and nearly 80°F by Friday.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to return by late Saturday, offering some relief. Rain chances increase to 40% Saturday night and continue into Sunday. Monday and Tuesday bring continued storm chances, with daytime highs remaining in the upper 70s to low 80s — above seasonal averages for early spring.

Five-Day Spring Weather Outlook for Atlanta:

  • Thursday: Sunny, high 75°F, low 53°F
  • Friday: Partly sunny, high 79°F
  • Saturday: Storms possible after 2 p.m., high 76°F
  • Sunday: Scattered showers, high 80°F
  • Monday: Continued rain chance, high 73°F
