South Carolina – The air feels dry and light across the Upstate this morning, and that dryness is creating a dangerous setup where even a small spark could spread quickly through grass and wooded areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, increased fire danger is in effect through the evening as relative humidity drops between 20% and 30% across much of the region. Despite light winds between 5 and 10 mph, extremely dry vegetation is enough to sustain rapid fire growth.

Across the South Carolina–North Carolina border region, burn bans remain in place, making any outdoor burning illegal. Areas including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and nearby mountain communities face the highest risk during peak afternoon heating.

Sunshine dominates today, pushing temperatures to around 66°F in Greenville. Conditions stay calm, but the dry air lingers into early week. By Monday, highs climb to 75°F under mostly sunny skies, continuing the warming trend.

By Tuesday, temperatures reach near 80°F with mostly sunny skies, signaling a shift toward a more humid pattern. While still relatively dry early, moisture begins to increase ahead of a more active setup.

The biggest change arrives Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms develop after 2 p.m., with around a 60% chance of rain. Roads along I-85 and I-26 could turn slick quickly during the afternoon and evening commute.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning and remain cautious with anything that could ignite a fire. Conditions will shift fast from dry to stormy by midweek.
