Charleston, South Carolina – Heat and humidity are combining for a dangerous Friday across the Lowcountry, with Charleston and coastal Georgia bracing for heat index values as high as 112°F and possible evening storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a heat advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, August 1, for Charleston, Savannah, Beaufort, Hilton Head, and much of the coastal region. Forecasters warn that temperatures in the mid-90s and dew points near 80°F could push “feels-like” readings above 110°F during peak afternoon hours. Strong thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall are likely by late afternoon and evening, especially along I-95 and Highway 17 corridors.

Residents in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Pooler, and Wilmington Island should stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity in the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbors. The heat advisory is especially concerning for outdoor workers, youth sports, and anyone without access to air conditioning. Scattered storms may briefly cool some areas but could also bring downpours and dangerous lightning.

Officials recommend wearing light clothing, drinking extra fluids, and seeking shade or air-conditioned spaces. The risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke remains high through this evening.

Dangerous heat is expected to persist into Saturday, with additional advisories possible. Stay tuned for updated alerts as the pattern evolves.
