Atlanta, Ga. – Strong storms could rattle metro Atlanta through midnight as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for eight Georgia counties, including Cobb, Fulton, and Gwinnett.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the watch is active until 12 a.m. EDT Monday, warning of damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain across parts of north-central and northwest Georgia. Affected areas include Atlanta, Decatur, Carrollton, Douglasville, and surrounding suburbs.
Residents in Carroll, Haralson, and Paulding counties may experience quick-moving cells capable of downing tree limbs and triggering localized power outages. The greatest threats include wind gusts over 60 mph and isolated quarter-size hail. Emergency officials urge drivers to remain off the roads if possible and to secure outdoor items that could become airborne.
The storm activity comes ahead of a humid Memorial Day, with lingering instability likely through early morning. Residents should monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts in case the watch is upgraded to a warning.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch 324 remains in effect until midnight. Additional advisories may follow if conditions intensify.
