Atlanta, Georgia – A line of dangerous thunderstorms is pushing into Georgia this morning, threatening parts of the state with damaging wind gusts and large hail through 1 p.m. Sunday. Nearly 4.2 million people, including residents of Atlanta, Macon, and Columbus, are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch as the system moves east from Alabama.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, storms could bring wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail as large as 1.75 inches—roughly the size of golf balls. The storms are tracking east-southeast and are expected to hit areas along and north of Interstate 85 and I-75, especially south of Atlanta and north of Macon and Columbus.
Cities in the watch area include Carrollton, LaGrange, Warner Robins, and Thomaston, with schools and hospitals on alert. Lightning will be frequent, and power outages or downed trees are possible. Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible and secure outdoor items. Stay indoors during the storm, and avoid windows.
The watch remains in effect until 1 p.m., and more warnings may follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local updates and be prepared to act quickly if a warning is issued.
