Atlanta, Georgia – Severe thunderstorms could sweep into northwest Georgia after 6 p.m. Tuesday, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and possible power outages across much of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Level 3 threat has been issued for areas including Rome, Cartersville, and Atlanta. The greatest storm intensity is expected between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., with gusts reaching 70 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. The storms will track southeast overnight.
Northwest counties such as Floyd, Bartow, and Paulding are likely to see the first impacts, with Atlanta’s metro area under threat shortly after dark. Southward, areas including Macon and Warner Robins fall under a Level 1 to 2 risk zone, with slightly lower—but still hazardous—wind potential.
Travel may become hazardous late Tuesday, especially along I-75 and I-20. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and prepare for potential outages. Tornadoes are not the primary concern but can’t be ruled out entirely.
Storm threats will taper off by sunrise Wednesday, but additional alerts could follow depending on storm strength. Stay tuned for evening updates from the NWS.
