Atlanta, GA – Tropical Storm Debby is expected to escalate into a hurricane before making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region tomorrow morning. The storm will likely weaken as it moves toward the South Carolina and Georgia coasts, bringing heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Peachtree City, the main hazard for Central Georgia will be prolonged periods of excessive rainfall. Forecasts predict significant precipitation through Wednesday morning, with locally heavier precipitation possible. A Flood Watch is in effect for much of east-central Georgia.

Rainfall predictions indicate a reasonable best-case scenario of a 90% chance of reaching forecasted amounts, while the worst-case scenario shows a 10% chance of exceeding these values. This level of rainfall over three days could lead to widespread flooding.

Additionally, wind gusts of over 30 mph are expected, making trees more susceptible to falling. A Tropical Storm Watch is currently in effect for several counties in east-central Georgia.
