Salt Lake City, UT – Shoppers across the U.S. are being urged to check their pantries after Tru Fru, LLC announced a voluntary recall of select freeze-dried fruit snacks due to possible metal contamination.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), third-party manufacturer Georgia Nut Company issued the recall on Friday, September 26, after receiving a consumer report that prompted an internal review. The affected products include specific lots of Tru Fru Freeze-Dried Strawberries in Dark & White Chocolate (1.7 oz, 3.4 oz, and 13 oz sizes) and Tru Fru Freeze-Dried Strawberries & Crème (3.4 oz).
The products were distributed nationwide and sold at major retailers including Target, Kroger, Albertson’s, CVS, H-E-B, Ingles Markets, Food Lion, Hungryroot, and Stew Leonard’s. Customers may also have purchased them online.
The FDA warns that hard or sharp foreign objects in food can cause serious injury, including cuts and internal damage. So far, no injuries or illnesses linked to the recall have been reported.
Consumers can identify recalled products by checking the 10-digit manufacturing code printed on the back of each package. Only specific codes listed by the company are included in the recall. No other Tru Fru items are affected.
Customers who purchased impacted snacks should not consume them and are advised to dispose of the product. For refunds or more information, consumers can call (888) 293-7748 or email trufru@rqa-inc.com.
