Georgia Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase on Interstate 65 in Alabama

Autauga County, AL – A high-speed chase on Interstate 65 ended with the arrest of a Lawrenceville, Georgia man on Friday. The chase began when Alabama troopers attempted to stop a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB near the 170-mile marker.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the driver refused to pull over, leading officers on a pursuit that stretched into Autauga County. The chase concluded in the northbound lanes near the 192-mile marker, where a standoff followed.

The driver, 39-year-old Choima Agurd, was arrested after law enforcement de-escalated the situation. Authorities charged Agurd with felony attempting to elude. He also faces charges in Texas for aggravated assault with a gun.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol, SWAT, and other agencies assisted in the operation. Agurd was the only person in the vehicle at the time of his arrest. He is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
