Tallahassee, Florida – Scorching heat and scattered afternoon storms are expected across the Florida Panhandle, south Georgia, and southeast Alabama today, with cities like Tallahassee and Valdosta hitting 96°F and heat indices likely approaching triple digits.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, isolated severe storms are possible north of a line from Abbeville, Alabama, to Tifton, Georgia, through this evening. The primary hazards include damaging wind gusts and small to medium-sized hail, especially in areas like Albany and Moultrie.

The heat will be widespread and intense, with highs in the mid-90s from Dothan to Bainbridge and Lake City. Coastal cities like Panama City and Destin will see slightly cooler temps in the 80s, but inland areas face a greater risk of heat stress. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight clothing.

While severe weather risks remain marginal (Level 1 of 5), strong cells could still impact Saturday plans. Storms may develop rapidly this afternoon and shift eastward by evening.

Heat advisories may be needed if current conditions persist into Sunday. Stay tuned for updates and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
