Peachtree City, GA – Residents of north and central Georgia are bracing for an intense heatwave, with a heat advisory in effect for Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the advisory due to expected heat index values exceeding 105 degrees, posing significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
According to the NWS, the advisory is in place from 10 AM to 9 PM Thursday, affecting much of the region including Peachtree City, Atlanta, and surrounding areas. Temperatures are anticipated to soar into the mid to upper 90s, but the heat index—the “feels-like” temperature considering humidity—will push conditions beyond 105 degrees.
Experts warn that such extreme heat can lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those engaged in outdoor activities or without access to air conditioning. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on elderly or medically vulnerable neighbors.
Looking ahead, the forecast for Peachtree City indicates a continuation of the hot weather, with Friday expected to reach a high of 95 degrees and little relief over the weekend. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are forecasted to be in the low 90s, with a slight cooling trend starting Monday when highs are projected to dip into the upper 80s. Despite this, the heat index will likely remain a factor, maintaining discomfort and potential health risks.
