Atlanta, GA – A Freeze Watch has been issued across much of Georgia as temperatures are expected to plunge into the upper 20s late Sunday night into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Forecasters warn of a “killing freeze” that could impact crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. The alert covers a wide swath of the state, including the Atlanta metro, North Georgia mountains, and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures may fall as low as 28°F, with even colder readings likely in higher elevations across northeast Georgia. The watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning, when the coldest air is expected to settle over the region.

Residents are urged to take precautions now—cover or bring in tender plants, insulate exposed pipes, and ensure outdoor pets have shelter from the cold.

This marks one of the coldest mornings so far this season, signaling an early taste of winter for much of Georgia.
