Atlanta, GA –
A Freeze Watch remains in effect for most of north and central Georgia, with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City warning of a widespread hard freeze late Monday night through Tuesday morning. Temperatures are expected to fall between 20 and 27 degrees, with even colder readings in higher elevations.
The watch covers a broad stretch of the state, including Athens, Macon, Warner Robins, Columbus, Milledgeville, Dublin, and Vidalia, where clear skies and calm winds will allow for rapid temperature drops after sunset Monday.
Forecasters caution that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing may freeze or burst. Residents are urged to cover plants, wrap exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and check on elderly neighbors and vulnerable individuals.
This freeze will mark the end of the growing season across much of Georgia. By Tuesday morning, wind chills could feel even colder, especially in open and rural areas.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, but forecasters note that another cold front could arrive later in the week, keeping conditions seasonably chilly.
