Rome, GA – The Coosa River at Mayo’s Bar near Rome continues to experience minor flooding, as the water level holds at 25 feet, just one foot above the flood stage. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for the area, with the river expected to remain above the critical 24-foot mark until further notice.

According to the NWS, flooding is occurring in woodlands, fields, and pastures along the river, both upstream and downstream of the gage near the old Lock and Dam behind the Trading Post. At 26 feet, minor flooding affects the nearby boat ramp at Lock and Dam Park, which is completely submerged.

The NWS urges caution for anyone near flooded roads, advising that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. The service also emphasizes not driving around barricades or through flooded areas. Motorists should be particularly cautious at night, when visibility is reduced and the dangers of flooding are harder to recognize.

As the situation remains under close watch, further updates will be provided as more data becomes available.
