Lawrenceville, Georgia – Drivers and residents in Gwinnett County are facing a dangerous overnight situation as torrential rains trigger a Flash Flood Warning through 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. Streets, highways, and low-lying neighborhoods in Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, and across central Gwinnett are already seeing standing water, with flooding expected to worsen in the coming hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Doppler radar has detected 1.5 to 3 inches of rain since midnight, with another 1 to 2 inches likely before sunrise. Flash flooding is ongoing or set to begin shortly, with the greatest danger focused on small creeks, streams, and urban areas where water rises fast. Key locations at risk include Duluth, Sugar Hill, Suwanee, Buford, Lilburn, Norcross, and Dacula, where underpasses and poor drainage are especially vulnerable.

Officials urge everyone to avoid travel overnight. Turn around, don’t drown—most flood deaths occur in vehicles. If you must be out, avoid flooded roadways and be extra alert, as hazards are much harder to spot in the dark. Keep mobile devices charged, monitor local alerts, and prepare to move to higher ground if water rises quickly.

This Flash Flood Warning remains in effect through 3:15 a.m., with more advisories possible if rain continues.
