Atlanta, GA – A heightened fire danger alert has been issued across north and central Georgia, as dry vegetation, low humidity, and strong winds raise the risk of fast-spreading wildfires through 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, relative humidity levels are expected to drop between 20% and 25%, while wind gusts from the northwest could reach up to 25 mph, with isolated gusts nearing 30 mph. These conditions, combined with increasingly dry ground cover, create an environment where any fires that ignite could spread rapidly.

The Fire Danger Statement applies to a broad area including metro Atlanta, Athens, Rome, and Macon. Residents are strongly discouraged from engaging in any outdoor burning activities during this period.

Local fire departments are urging caution, especially in rural and wooded areas where fire containment could prove more difficult. Officials recommend securing loose materials, avoiding outdoor machinery that may spark, and staying alert for emergency updates.

This level of fire risk is not uncommon during Georgia’s spring dry spells, but residents are reminded to remain vigilant. Any suspected fire activity should be reported immediately to emergency services. The advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
