Atlanta, Georgia – A developing tropical depression off the northeast Florida coast is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to parts of Georgia and the Carolinas through the holiday weekend, with rain continuing into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, the system—designated Tropical Depression Three—is drifting slowly northward and is not expected to intensify significantly. The center of the storm was located at 30.8°N, 79.0°W as of 5 p.m. Friday, with sustained winds of 35 mph and forward motion of just 2 mph.

Impacts across east-central Georgia, including areas like Macon and Augusta, may include localized downpours and occasional lightning starting Saturday afternoon. In South Carolina, cities such as Columbia and Charleston could see off-and-on showers through Sunday evening. North Carolina’s southern counties may also get rain as the system weakens inland by Monday morning.

While no widespread severe weather is expected, residents are advised to remain weather-aware, especially during outdoor July 4th plans. Avoid flooded roadways, and consider delaying travel during periods of heavy rain.

Tropical watches or warnings are not currently in effect, but conditions may evolve as the system moves inland.
