Burke County, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed three EF0 tornadoes touched down in Burke County, Georgia, and Barnwell County, South Carolina, on March 16. Each twister produced maximum winds of 80 mph, primarily causing tree damage.
According to the NWS, two tornadoes struck near Girard, Georgia. The first, along Stoney Bluff Road, spanned 4.35 miles with a maximum width of 70 yards, lasting from 7:00 a.m. to 7:04 a.m. The second, near Royal Road, had a 3.08-mile path and a wider impact of 100 yards, occurring from 7:01 a.m. to 7:04 a.m.
A third tornado hit Snelling, South Carolina, in Barnwell County. It covered a short 0.30-mile path with a width of 50 yards between 7:27 a.m. and 7:29 a.m. No injuries or fatalities were reported in any of the events.
The NWS stated that no further surveys are planned but encouraged residents to report any additional damage.
