Charleston, SC – Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are forecasted to impact Southeast South Carolina and Southeast Georgia this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk across coastal counties and areas south of I-16. The National Weather Service in Charleston issued the alert, emphasizing the potential for damaging winds up to 75 mph, frequent lightning, and minor flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the NWS, the greatest risk for severe weather will occur between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Residents in affected areas are urged to secure loose outdoor items, stay indoors, and monitor local weather updates. The storm system may also lead to downed trees and power lines, increasing the danger to those outdoors.

The NWS advises residents to remain weather-aware throughout the day as conditions can quickly deteriorate. In addition to wind and lightning, minor flooding is possible, particularly in poorly drained areas. Travelers should exercise caution on roads and avoid any flooded areas.
