Birmingham, AL – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect this morning across much of north and central Alabama and northwest Georgia, with the National Weather Service warning of visibility reduced to one-quarter mile or less in many areas through midmorning.
According to advisories from Peachtree City, GA, Huntsville, AL, and Birmingham, AL, dense fog will persist through 9 a.m. CDT in Alabama and 10 a.m. EDT in Georgia. Impacted areas include Atlanta’s northern suburbs, Rome, Dalton, Huntsville, Cullman, Gadsden, and Tuscaloosa, among others.
Meteorologists caution that low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous, particularly on Interstates 20, 59, 75, and 65, where fog is likely to be thickest in low-lying and river valley areas.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles during the morning commute. Conditions should gradually improve as temperatures rise and fog lifts by late morning.
The fog formed under clear skies, light winds, and lingering surface moisture, a common setup for late-October mornings across the region.
