Albany, Georgia – A brief bout of wintry weather is set to brush southwest Georgia and nearby southeast Alabama early Sunday, bringing the potential for light snow but minimal travel impacts across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Sunday morning through noon for parts of southwest and south-central Georgia, along with portions of southeast Alabama. Snow is expected to develop before daybreak, with total accumulations up to one inch in the coldest locations.
Counties included in the advisory range from Dougherty, Lee, Worth, Tift, Turner, and Ben Hill to Early, Baker, Miller, and Randolph, extending west into Henry County, Alabama. Communities such as Albany, Leesburg, Sylvester, Tifton, Fitzgerald, Dawson, Blakely, and Fort Gaines may see flakes during the morning hours, though most accumulation is expected on grassy surfaces.
Forecasters say roadways should remain mostly wet, with little to no snow buildup expected on pavement. Any light accumulation that does occur Sunday morning should begin melting quickly as temperatures climb into the 40s by the afternoon.
Drivers are still encouraged to remain alert during the early morning hours, especially on bridges and overpasses where temperatures can run colder. The advisory is set to expire by midday Sunday, and no lingering impacts are expected once temperatures rebound later in the day.
