Georgetown, Idaho – A minor earthquake rattled parts of southeastern Idaho on Monday afternoon, with light shaking reported east-northeast of Georgetown. The 3.0 magnitude tremor struck at 3:49 p.m. MDT, sending a brief jolt through rural Bear Lake County but causing no immediate damage.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake originated at a shallow depth of just 5 kilometers, about 11 kilometers ENE of Georgetown. One local resident reported feeling the quake, while area emergency agencies confirmed there were no disruptions to power, roads, or critical infrastructure.

Communities near Georgetown, Montpelier, and as far south as northern Utah experienced light, momentary shaking. No injuries or structural damage have been reported. Idaho DOT and local officials did not order road closures, but residents are advised to check foundations, secure shelves, and ensure emergency kits are up-to-date. Historically, this region sees occasional minor quakes, but larger events remain rare.

Seismic activity is expected to remain low for the next several days, though minor aftershocks are possible. The USGS will continue to monitor the situation; residents are encouraged to report any new shaking.
