George, Washington — A George man was arrested after a domestic violence standoff drew deputies to a home.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:30 a.m. Monday to the 5500 block of North Frontage Road West following a report that a woman had been assaulted inside the residence.
Investigators say the victim told deputies that Ken J. Taylor, 36, allegedly threw her around inside the home during a domestic dispute. When deputies arrived, Taylor initially refused to come out of the house, prompting a prolonged standoff.
Authorities said deputies spent about 90 minutes negotiating with Taylor outside the residence in an attempt to get him to surrender peacefully.
During the standoff, deputies deployed less-than-lethal pepper balls into the home in an effort to get Taylor to exit. When that effort did not work, deputies prepared to breach the front door.
Before entry was made, deputies released K-9 Storm into the home. The dog barked to announce his presence, and Taylor came out and surrendered without further incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Taylor was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail.
He is accused of:
- Fourth-degree assault – domestic violence
- Obstructing law enforcement
- Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm
Authorities did not release additional information about the victim’s condition.
Domestic violence calls remain among the most frequent responses for deputies across Grant County. Incidents like this can cause disruptions for nearby residents and early-morning commuters in smaller communities like George.
The investigation remains ongoing.
