Gaylord, Michigan – Cold air is holding firm across northern Michigan today, and snow showers are expected to develop later tonight as temperatures fall into the low 20s.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, highs Friday will only reach the mid-20s to upper 30s across the region, including Gaylord, Petoskey, and Alpena. Conditions will remain partly to mostly sunny early, but clouds will increase through the evening.
By late tonight, scattered snow showers will move in, especially across northern lower Michigan and into the eastern Upper Peninsula. Overnight lows will drop between 22 and 27 degrees, allowing any light precipitation to create slick spots on untreated roads, particularly along US-131 and I-75.
Saturday brings continued chilly conditions, with highs ranging from the low 30s to low 40s. Snow showers may linger across the eastern U.P., though accumulation will remain light, generally under an inch outside localized higher totals north of the bridge.
Conditions improve Sunday with more sunshine and highs climbing into the 40s and 50s.
A stronger warmup arrives early next week, with parts of northern lower Michigan potentially reaching the 60s by Monday afternoon.
