Gaylord, Michigan – Clear skies and calm winds will settle over northern Michigan Tuesday night, but residents should brace for a shift as severe thunderstorms may arrive by Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, lows tonight will range from 53° to 63° across the region, offering a quiet break before active weather returns. A system moving in from the west will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the area beginning Wednesday, with a few storms potentially becoming severe. Hazards include large hail, gusty winds exceeding 40 mph, and frequent lightning.

Daytime highs Wednesday will hover between 71° and 78°, especially along U.S. Route 131 and M-32 corridors, where storm development could begin mid-afternoon. Residents in Emmet, Cheboygan, and Otsego counties should prepare for possible brief power outages or tree damage. Drivers are urged to monitor road conditions and avoid flooded areas if heavy downpours develop.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, offering temporary relief before rain chances return Friday with scattered showers and highs in the low 80s.

More advisories could be issued if storm intensity increases. Residents should have weather alerts enabled and remain weather-aware through Wednesday evening.
