Gaylord, Mich. – Showers are expected to spread across the eastern Upper Peninsula late tonight and linger through Wednesday before drier and sunnier weather settles in for the second half of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, rain chances will pick up overnight, especially north of the Mackinac Bridge, with temperatures dropping into the mid-40s to low 50s. By Tuesday, scattered showers and breezy conditions will continue across the Upper Peninsula, while Lower Michigan stays mostly dry with highs ranging from the upper 60s to upper 70s.

Rain chances remain in place Wednesday for eastern Upper Michigan, but skies will gradually clear. Sunshine returns across much of the state on Thursday, with highs warming into the upper 70s and low 80s. Friday brings partly sunny skies and mild conditions, keeping the warming trend in place heading into the weekend.

Travelers heading across the Straits of Mackinac should be prepared for wet pavement and reduced visibility tonight into Wednesday morning. Residents are encouraged to keep rain gear handy early this week but can expect drier and warmer afternoons later on.

The National Weather Service notes additional updates may be issued if rainfall becomes heavier than expected.
